What to bring on travel day

The two separate sets of documents you travel with, who decides what is on each, and where to find your booking paperwork.

3 min read

You are travelling with two separate sets of documents, and different people decide what is on each. Your travel documents are yours to arrange. Your medical documents are whatever your clinic has told you it needs. GetClinic supplies neither list, and this article is not one.

Your travel documents are your responsibility

Under the Patient Marketplace Terms of Service you are responsible for passport validity, visas, immigration requirements, entry restrictions and any other required travel documents. Check these against the destination country's own official source rather than against a summary, and check them again shortly before you leave. Visas and entry explains where to look and why we do not publish the rules here.

Carry the means to pay and to be reached: a payment method that works abroad, your own contact details, and a contact for someone at home. If your clinic has given you a local number or an address for the facility, keep a copy somewhere that does not depend on your phone battery.

Your clinic decides what medical information it needs

The clinic is responsible for determining what medical information it requires. It may ask for medical history, photographs, scans, X-rays, laboratory results, medication information, details of prior procedures, a consultation or a physical examination. What it asks for depends on you and on the treatment, so ask the clinic directly and bring exactly what it named.

GetClinic does not publish a medical checklist and could not write an accurate one. Anything you read here or elsewhere about what to pack medically is general information, not a requirement, and it does not replace what your clinic told you. If you are unsure whether an item on your clinic's list is still needed, ask the clinic before you fly rather than after you land.

What is already in your GetClinic account

You do not need to print your paperwork, but it helps to know where it lives. Your account may hold your booking confirmation, payment confirmation, transaction record, refund status and the accepted terms for your booking, alongside your clinic's written offer. Your clinic's offer is the document that states the treatment, the price or estimate, the deposit, the balance, the material inclusions and exclusions, the validity period and the cancellation and no-show terms.

Read the offer again before you travel. It is the only reliable statement of what your clinic has agreed to provide, and it differs from clinic to clinic.

Two things worth doing before you leave

If you have a video appointment scheduled around your trip, expect to confirm who you are and where you currently are. For a medical teleconsultation the clinic may ask you to confirm your identity, your current physical location and your contact details so that it can provide care lawfully and safely, and you should tell it if you have moved country since booking. Video consultations explains how those sessions work.

Second, tell your clinic about anything that has changed since it last reviewed your case. You are asked to give the clinic accurate and complete information to the best of your knowledge, and to tell it if relevant medical information changes before consultation, travel, treatment or follow-up. What your clinic needs to know about your health explains that duty.

This is general information about how GetClinic works, not medical advice. GetClinic is a technology marketplace; the clinic you choose provides your healthcare and is responsible for it, and only its qualified healthcare professionals can decide what treatment is right for you. No list on this page is complete, and your clinic's instructions come first.
