Visas and entry: who is responsible for what

Who is responsible for your passport, visa and entry to the destination country, and where to check the rules that apply to your trip.

3 min read

Your passport, your visa and your entry into the destination country are your responsibility. GetClinic does not provide immigration advice and cannot guarantee that a government will issue you a visa or let you enter. This article explains how that responsibility is split and where to find the rules that apply to you.

What you are responsible for

Under the Patient Marketplace Terms of Service, you are responsible for:

  • passport validity
  • visas
  • immigration requirements
  • entry restrictions
  • required travel documents

The requirements that apply to you depend on your nationality, your destination, your route, how long you are staying and why you are travelling. That combination is different for almost every reader, and immigration rules can change without notice. For both reasons we do not publish visa rules here, and you should not rely on any third party's summary of them, including ours.

What GetClinic does not do

GetClinic is a technology marketplace. The clinic you choose provides your healthcare and is responsible for it. Beyond the marketplace itself, GetClinic does not provide flights, hotels, airport transfers, local transportation or healthcare-tourism packages, and it does not act as an immigration adviser. We do not assess your eligibility to travel, prepare or file an application, or speak to a consulate on your behalf.

We also cannot promise an outcome. A confirmed booking, a paid deposit and a clinic appointment are not evidence that a government will admit you.

Where to check the rules

Go to the authority that decides, not to a summary of it:

  • the destination country's own immigration authority or foreign ministry, on its official website
  • that country's embassy or consulate responsible for where you live, for anything the website does not answer
  • your own government's official travel advice, for exit requirements and current entry restrictions

Airlines, forums, comparison sites and paid visa agents are not the authority. Check the official source when you start planning, and check it again close to your travel date. Allow enough time before your appointment for whatever process applies.

If you book travel before your visa is decided

Flights, hotels, transport, visas, insurance, meals, companion expenses and lost income that you buy independently are not refundable by GetClinic if a treatment booking is cancelled. That is true whatever the reason for the cancellation, including a refused or delayed visa. GetClinic does not sell or organise those services, so it cannot return money it never received.

Because international treatment can create costs that ordinary policies do not deal with, the Terms suggest you consider arranging your own travel, health, medical-travel, complication and cancellation insurance before you commit to anything. Read what any policy you buy actually says about a refused visa.

What happens to a deposit you have already paid is a separate question, answered by your clinic's written offer and by the cancellation and refund rules, not by this article.

Getting help

If a clinic or anyone claiming to represent one asks for a booking deposit outside the payment route shown at checkout, contact [email protected] before you pay. See paying safely.

This is general information about how GetClinic works. It is not immigration advice and it is not medical advice. Only the clinic's qualified healthcare professionals can decide what treatment is right for you, and only the destination government can decide whether you may enter. The full terms are at /terms, and every published GetClinic legal document is listed at /legal.
