What \"complication support\" means

Complication support is coordination with your treating clinic, not insurance and not a payment. What it does, and what to arrange yourself.

Complication support means one thing: if something needs putting right after your treatment, GetClinic coordinates with the clinic that treated you. It is a coordination service, not insurance and not a payment. The clinic that carried out your treatment remains responsible for your care, including complications.

What GetClinic does

GetClinic operates the marketplace technology that connects you to the clinic. If a complication arises, that technology is how you reach the clinic: messages, documents, images and the booking record all sit in one place, and GetClinic can relay a request and keep it on your booking record. If a clinic stops responding to a reasonable request sent through the marketplace, that is a marketplace matter, and the routes are in how to make a complaint.

GetClinic is responsible for the services it actually provides, which are technology and marketplace services (Terms of Service §12). It does not diagnose, prescribe, determine medical eligibility, supervise physicians, perform procedures or provide clinical aftercare (Terms of Service §7).

So complication support is help getting the right conversation happening with the right clinic, with your history to hand. It is not a clinical judgement about what should happen next.

Your clinic is responsible for complications

The Terms of Service put complications on the clinic's exclusive-responsibility list, alongside diagnosis, treatment planning, informed consent, medical records, clinical outcomes, emergency care, postoperative care and aftercare (Terms of Service §11).

Clinical negligence, malpractice, treatment decisions, performance of medical services and clinical aftercare are the clinic's medical liability (Terms of Service §72). Clinics on the marketplace are independent healthcare providers, not employees, subsidiaries or medical agents of GetClinic (Terms of Service §10).

That is why the first move, if you are worried about how you are healing, is your clinic. Guidance on where different kinds of concern should go is in raising a medical concern, and emergencies.

What your clinic offer says about revisions

What happens if a result needs revising is a commercial and clinical matter between you and the clinic, and it is set out in that clinic's own written offer. The Booking Terms §5 require the clinic offer to identify material inclusions, material exclusions and the conditions that materially affect it, before you pay anything treatment-related.

Inclusions differ from clinic to clinic. GetClinic cannot tell you what yours contains, and does not state what any clinic offer includes. Read your own offer, and ask the clinic directly about revisions, corrective treatment and what would be chargeable, before you travel.

If a clinic later proposes a material change to price or scope, it has to disclose it and get your agreement before it binds you (Booking Terms §8).

Insurance is a separate decision, and it is yours

The Terms of Service are direct about this. International healthcare may create financial risks that ordinary insurance does not extend to, and patients should independently consider appropriate travel insurance, health insurance, medical travel insurance, and insurance for complications and for cancellation (Terms of Service §58).

GetClinic does not provide insurance unless that is expressly stated under separate terms (Terms of Service §58). Complication support is not an insurance product, and there is no sum of money attached to it.

If you are arranging a policy yourself, do it before you travel, and check how it treats planned treatment abroad, revision procedures and repatriation. That is a conversation with an insurer or a broker, not with GetClinic.

If you think something has gone wrong

Contact your clinic first, because it holds your medical record and made the clinical decisions. If you believe there is an immediate risk to your health or safety, contact local emergency services or a healthcare provider straight away, and do not wait for a message or a scheduled session.

Marketplace, booking, payment and conduct issues go to GetClinic. GetClinic may facilitate a complaint, ask a clinic to put something right and take marketplace enforcement action, but it does not determine whether malpractice occurred. The routes are set out in how to make a complaint.

GetClinic is a technology marketplace. The clinic you choose provides your healthcare and is responsible for it. This is general information about how GetClinic works, not medical advice. Only the clinic's qualified healthcare professionals can decide what treatment is right for you.
