Time off work. The NHS puts recovery for breast implants at around a week or two. Unpaid leave is part of the true price.
The nights you cannot fly. The NHS advises avoiding flights "5 to 7 days after procedures such as breast surgery and liposuction" because of clot risk. The FCDO adds that you should board only when you are fit to fly. Budget those hotel nights.
Going back. Whether for a complication now or a replacement years from now, returning to your surgeon means paying to travel again. BAPRAS notes a return visit "could add hundreds of pounds as well as involve significant time away from work".
Insurance and getting home. Standard travel insurance does not normally cover you if you travelled abroad for elective surgery. Gov.uk guidance on being in hospital abroad states that if your policy does not cover repatriation, "you'll have to arrange and pay for it yourself".
Who fixes it if something goes wrong. BAPRAS states the NHS will always look after you in a life-threatening emergency, but "will usually refuse treatment for less serious complications or bad outcomes following cosmetic surgery".
